Le 1er mai, fête Celte :'Beltaine'
Beltaine se situe la dernière nuit d'avril et le 1er mai. Les Celtes et les Saxons antiques célébraient Beltaine (ou "Jour du Feu" car Bel était le Dieu celtique du soleil) le 1er mai et
commençaient leurs célébrations la veille, le 30 avril.
Cette fête marque une rupture dans l’année, on passe de la saison sombre à la saison claire, lumineuse, c’est aussi un changement de vie puisque c’est l’ouverture des activités diurnes : reprise de la chasse, de la guerre, des razzias, des conquêtes pour les guerriers, début des travaux agraires et champêtres pour les agriculteurs et les éleveurs. Beltaine est la période de prédilection pour les rites de passage entre les périodes froide et chaude, entre l’obscurité et la lumière, entre la mort psychique symbolique et la renaissance spirituelle. De manière générale, Beltaine est la fête du changement du rythme de vie. Du rythme hivernal, on passe au rythme estival. La fête marque ce passage tant physiquement que spirituellement.
Chez les Celtes, le matin du 1er mai, les femmes sortaient très tôt pour recueillir la rosée, considérée comme chargée de pouvoirs de guérison ce jour-là, et la conservaient ensuite dans de petites fioles : elles se servaient pour purifier et soigner. (Poussière d’Etoile)
Chez les Romains, le mois de mai était celui de Maia, déesse de la fécondité, c’est-à-dire un des avatars de la Terre-Mère.
Le mois de mai est donc logiquement devenu le mois de Marie.
Le muguet est une fleur "porte-bonheur" qu'on offre habituellement le 1er mai, jour de la fête du travail. Le roi Charles IX officialisa les choses le 1er mai 1561, ayant reçu un brin de muguet en guise de porte-bonheur, il décida d'en offrir chaque année aux dames de la cour. La tradition était née.
